Active in the early to mid 1990s, Flying Taxi was a staple on the Ames and ISU club scene.  Playing a blend of hard rock, classic blues and pop,  the band was fan favorite in the Central Iowa area.   Having ISU-themed local hits such as "Heishman Trophy Man", "Cyclone Jerry", and "ISUCF'V'MB", Flying Taxi landed coverage on ESPN, WOI-TV (Des Moines), KCCQ Radion (Ames IA).  After years of playing covers, Flying Taxi released their own and only studio album Standard Fare in 1997.
